The Director of the International Institute of UNESCO for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), Dr. José Renato Carvalho, recently met with:  Dr. Luis Miguel Romero, President of the OUI-IOHE and Rector of UTPL; Dr. Roberto Beltrán, Executive Director of CAMPUS and the CAMPUS-OUI Team on August 14th. The aim of the meeting was to strengthe ties with IESALC and the OUI-IOHE.

The meeting covered important areas such as IOHE’s work plan, recent developments  and the importance of the various programs that form part of the organization.

In addition,   the CAMPUS program was discussed within various fields together with the different projects that are being developed and which form  part of its collaboration with other HEI and international organisms from Latin America. The topic  that was highlighted during the meeting was the OUI-IOHE  ELES Project, namely  ’The Latin American and Caribbean Common Area of Higher Education’. Within this framework, Dr. Luis Miguel Romero emphasized the importance of enhancing  training and technology- since it is an important pillar for the development of society and the common good of students.

What’s more, Dr. José Renato Carvalho stressed IESALC’s interest in assisting with the ELES project initiatives.   Dr. Carvahlo stated that he would be able to help to strengthen the educational system in Ecuador and the rest of Latin America- the weaknesses of which  stem from   a lack of technology or political barriers such as governmental policies.

For both the OUI-IOHE and UTPL, this is particularly  important since both parties will be able to monitor the results that are produced as a consequence of the ENLACES proposal with IESALC, thereby strengthening ties between IESALC and OUI and CAMPUS-OUI.
